Be careful out there.
Be careful as you live as a Christian in the world.
Be watchful. Exercise caution.
Learn to detect what is dangerous to the Christian faith.
It would be wise to become conscious of how such danger can be escaped.
Remember: you are a sheep.
And as such you will always be vulnerable.
The world is full of wolves.
And they are hungry.
And they don’t think twice about preying on sheep. It’s in their nature to do so.
Never assume otherwise.
It is foolish for a sheep to trust wolves, to travel with wolves.
It is foolish for a sheep to taunt, or challenge, or insult a wolf.
It a fight, a sheep will always loose.
It is foolish for a sheep to trust in luck or magic or fortune or even cunning for protection.
The only protection a sheep has is a good shepherd.
A sheep without such a shepherd is most often a dead sheep.
And a sheep who ignores and/or disobeys such a shepherd endangers his/her very life.
A sheep who begins doubting the goodwill and wisdom of the shepherd
or begins thinking unpleasant thoughts of the shepherd
or starts speaking about the shepherd in critical and sarcastic and ungracious ways
or questions the providence of the shepherd
or becomes unwilling to be guided by the shepherd…
or concludes that the protection of the shepherd is not needed….
anything that separates the sheep from the shepherd,
puts distance between the sheep and shepherd,
puts the sheep at risk, increases the possibility of being plundered by a wolf.
Over-confidence, arrogance, complacency…
are all things that put a sheep in dangerous circumstances.
True freedom for the sheep is not being able to do what it wants when it wants.
True freedom for the sheep is existing under the watchful eye of the shepherd.
True freedom is freedom from the threat of being eaten by a predator.
Be safe. Be wise. Be prudent. Be patient. Be careful.
Don’t be gullible. Don’t be complacent. Don’t be naïve. Don’t be infantile.
Don’t be unintelligent. Don’t be short-sighted. Don’t be willful.
Don’t be lawless. Don’t be factious (cliquish).
Today’s prayer: “O Lord, we are the sheep of Your flock. Help us to believe and to always put our faith in Your loving purpose to keep us safe. Give us a new spirit that joyfully delights in Your saving will. Amen!”
