The conflicts in our world cry out for resolution…
the conflicts between nations, between Christians and Muslims,
between husband and wife, between parent and child.
Both personal and institutional efforts are needed
to solve the problems.
Jesus rebukes the human response of retaliation.
Retaliation perpetuates the chain of violence.
settling the score
giving another person a taste of their own medicine…
these are contrary to the Christian way of life.
gossip is retaliation
slander is retaliation
character assassination is retaliation
returning rejection for rejection is retaliation
returning insult for insult is retaliation
returning harassment for harassment is retaliation
returning humiliation for humiliation is retaliation
any time we strike back….we are guilty of retaliation
using words as weapons….
using religious conviction to get even…
are forms of retaliation.
Retaliation is foreign to the mind of Christ.
As long as there is retaliation, there can be no peace.
If we do not know the peace of Christ in our lives….
we may want to examine our daily living…
stop choosing retaliation as a response.
For peace and retaliation cannot coexist.
It is possible to do the will of God….w/o the use of retaliation.
It is possible to bring the peace of God….w/o the use of retaliation.
Jesus was resolved to do the will of God….to reconcile not to destroy.
May his determination become our own.
