Are you ready for Christmas?
Have you made all the necessary preparations?
Have you appropriately anticipated all that is needed?
Is everything in its proper place?
Have you considered what is expected and arranged matters accordingly?
Have you set the groundwork,
taken measure and planned for what you know is going to take place?
Do you have all the essentials on hand?
Are you ready for Christmas?
Before you answer this question
you may want to consider another question:
how did God prepare for Christmas?
According to the prophet Zephaniah…
He changed the hearts and purified the lips of his people.
He removed from their midst the proud braggarts, the self-exalting,
the liars, those with deceitful tongues, the rebellious, those who refused correction.
He removed from their midst…
those who imposed their oppressive will on others,
those who disturbed the peaceful of heart,
those who corrupted the innocent,
those who refused to hear his voice,
those who pitched their tents with idolaters.
The faithful he revived, took possession of them, gathered them together;
the unfaithful he scattered to the wind…
and they are not remembered.
Now some might think it silly to even suggest that God prepared for Christmas.
But that’s exactly what He did.
God made a promise.  And He did what was necessary
to fulfill that promise.
Christmas is not an accident, a chance occurrence in human history,
one possibility among an infinite number of possibilities.
It was and is part of a divine plan.
And plans require preparation.
And I think it might be fruitful for us, as we prepare for Christmas,
to take heed of God’s preparations.
If anyone knows how to properly prepare for this great feast it’s God.
Back to my initial question:  are you ready for Christmas?
…..I didn’t think so.
