A political revolution is usually sparked by a desire to be free,
free from the rule of an oppressive ruler or system.
Jesus was a spiritual revolutionary.
He came to bring God’s life and God’s justice and God’s peace.
Unless I missed something
I've never heard Jesus say:  “I have come to free all the sheep....
to take down all the fences and walls surrounding the sheep.”
He said:  “I have come to take the sheep into my care....
to save them from thieves and robbers
to protect them from dangerous threats.
I will shelter my sheep behind my fences and within my walls.”

Yes, Jesus' revolution brings freedom....freedom from sin and all its consequences.
But this freedom isn't freedom from restrictions and it isn't freedom from boundaries.
Jesus knew: if you take down the fences and let human beings roam free at will
there'll be nothing but trouble.
They'll make a mess of things and wind up destroying out of greed and selfishness.
When there is no order, no boundaries, no civility, no structure, no consequences,
no responsibility, no accountability.....there’s trouble.

No, the fences didn't come down nor does Jesus want to take them down.
He said:  I'll be the gatekeeper....I'll be the gate
making sure no one gets in who shouldn't
and making sure the sheep don't get out on their own.
I will lead them out....take them to places where grazing is good.
And if they start to wander too far from the flock
I'll take my shepherd's rod, that long stick with a crook on the end,
and I'll snag them and direct them back...
or I'll take my shepherd's sling and launch a rock at the ground by their nose
hoping to get their attention and turn them back in the right direction.
For I know....as long as the sheep stay in my care
stay on the right side of my fences, they'll be secure."

When we choose a life in Christ we are not choosing to roam the earth at will....
We are choosing to follow to go where he leads when he leads.
We are choosing his protection
which means living within his fences, his boundaries, his rules.

Sheep without fences, sheep without a good shepherd
fall prey to robbers and thieves and wolves. They are not free; they are lost.

“Help us to yield ourselves, O Lord, to your safekeeping.  Amen!
